About BCI & Dr. Matthew Galati
The mission BCI is to improve the standard of care for traumatic brain injury (TBI) through education, awareness, support and research around non-pharmacological approaches to healing the brain. With your help we hope to continue building a movement of brain ambassadors to spread the word that the brain reroutes, the brain heals and the brain changes!
In 2013, Brain Changes Founder, Dr. Matthew Galati sustained a life-threatening Traumatic Brain Injury. He used a lifestyle-change approach to heal his brain that against all odds allowed him to fully recover, complete his medical training, and become a physician. Through his recovery, he learned about aerobic exercise and its ability to create new brain cells (neurogenesis), improve cognitive processing, and stimulate new learning. He began running 5km daily and never stopped!
About RUNCO & Hussein Hashi
Hussein Hashi’s interest in understanding people’ mindsets, attitudes, and behaviours stems from his days studying sociology and psychology at the University of Toronto. Hussein uses his ingenuity, curiousity, and persistence to push boundaries and disrupt conventional thinking in order to overcome challenges. As a 2 time Canadian national champion and Olympic hopeful in 2024, Hussein utilizes his expertise and grit to help other runners break mental obstacles on his running platform Runco as well as to introduce running as a way to promote mental health and well-being. Running has helped him during times of disconnection such as the COVID-19 pandemic and he hopes others can find the mind-body connection and clarity it offers him.
