My Story…
I really believe that one of the best ways to support those in need is to educate and empower them. Teaching valuable skills needed to survive and using local resources is a sustainable way to make positive change. E.g. Teaching bridge building skills so kids can walk across a raging river to go to school. OI is an organization that aligns with this.
Description
Opportunity International Canada designs, delivers, and scales innovative solutions to transform the lives of those living in poverty through sustainable livelihoods and education. Made up of a global network of change-making organizations, Opportunity International strives towards a world where everyone is afforded equal opportunity to live a life with dignity and purpose. It was founded with the belief that the marketplace can be used as a channel and means of economic vitality for poor communities. This belief continues to drive strategic and sustainable programs that adapt to the needs of our clients especially now as they face the challenges of rebuilding their businesses while still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
For too many families living in poverty, this pandemic has not only brought with it sickness, but also hunger and homelessness. Lockdowns and increased health regulations mean many have been unable to work or run the small businesses they rely on for their daily income. In addition, many children have been unable to go to school, interrupting their access to education. These ongoing impacts of the pandemic threaten to drastically set back strides towards ending poverty.
Opportunity International Canada and its Implementing Partners are remaining on the frontlines by delivering strategic and sustainable programs to help families survive the challenges today so that they can thrive tomorrow.
