Check out the summer's most “spirited” event!
The 2nd Annual Springdale 5K - Race for Preservation takes place on the grounds of Peoria’s historic Springdale Cemetery & Mausoleum. Run or walk on the sprawling 225-acre nonsectarian National Historic Site that opened in 1854. It’s one of the largest cemeteries in Illinois.
Monuments! Mausoleums! Scenic paths! And then there’s the eternal spirits who reside in Springdale. Among them: Peoria mayors, builder of Proctor Hospital John Cleveland Proctor, Bradley University founder Lydia Moss Bradley, internationally known artist Hedley Waycott, founder of Peoria Players Mabel Northrup Morrill, president of the Peoria chapter of the NAACP John Henry Gwynn, Jr., and scores of veterans are just a few of the souls who call Springdale home.
The purpose of this race is to help build Springdale’s endowment so that the general care and maintenance of the cemetery, including the memorials erected thereon, is financed by the income of the trust fund.
