What better time than the winter to best hone in on your triathlon skills for the upcoming season? We’ve put together two Professional Triathlon Coaches (Jennifer Harrison and Ryan Giuliano) and Physical Therapist/Running Technique Coach (Denise Smith) to focus on swimming, biking, and running. Each small group will have 60 minutes to learn, ask questions, and try out their new skills in the pool and running. Our bike session will discuss power, training, and workouts specific to riding. The afternoon session will include mobility and strength training.

Our Workshop Coaches
How it will work:
- The day will begin with a 15 minute introduction of the coaches and all those attending.
- The group will be divided into three separate groups.
- Those 8-10 will go to the swim, bike, or run coach for an hour. You'll have 15 minutes between each coach.
- You'll rotate every hour.
- In the afternoon, the whole class will join together for mobility and strength.
- We will plan to go no later than 1:30 p.m.
- Snacks will be provided.
About our Crew
Jennifer Harrison (JHC) has been coaching athletes for 20 years. Jennifer coaches a wide variety of athletes from pure runners to Ironman athletes. She works with all levels of athletes from beginners to professional athletes. She is an accomplished triathlete winning area sprint races to participating in the Hawaii Ironman. Her love for swimming brings her knowledge to the pool for this workshop. Each swimmer that participates will walk away with 3 specific things that they can do to improve their stroke. Not only form correction, but also drills to specifically address your limiters in the pool.
Denise Smith is the owner and operator of Smith Physical Therapy and Running Academy in Crystal Lake, St. Charles and Kenosha Wisconsin. Her continuous education in physical therapy and running techniques has made her the expert in this area. Specifically, she has mastered the art form of creating better runners through form analysis and developing new habits to help runners prevent injuries, improve their performance and efficiency. Denise is also the Race Director for the Crystal Lake Aquathon.
Ryan Giuliano (Rybread Racing / MMTT) has been an endurance athlete for the past 20 years with personal achievements of being a 5x podium finisher at the Ironman World Championships as well as a 70.3 age group world champion. He is the head coach of the Multisport Madness Junior Triathlon Team (MMTT), which is a Chicagoland based program for triathletes aged 13-19. Throughout his tenure, he has coached three individual national champions and produced 20+ top ten nationally ranked juniors. In addition to the junior program, Ryan coaches individual athletes from beginners up to aspiring Kona qualifiers. He leads power based bike workouts throughout the week in St. Charles and believes that utilizing the winter months to develop bike strength pays significant dividends once the spring racing season rolls around.
Trudy Wakeman is the owner of Race Production by Trudy, a race management company that develops events in Northern Illinois. Events include: Tri County Tri Series, McHenry County Century Ride, Fox Lake Triathlon, Crystal Lake Half Marathon, and working with Crystal Lake Aquathon, Patriot 5K, McHenry County Santa Run for kids. Along with events, she is an active triathlete and has completed races from sprint to Ironman.

7:30-7:45 a.m. Check in
7:45 - 8 a.m. Introductions of coaches and attendees
8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Group A = Swim, Group B = Bike, Group C = Run
9:15 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. Group A = Bike, Group B = Run, Group C = Swim
10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Group A = Run, Group B = Swim, Group C - Bike
11:45 - 12:30 - Strength Group A, B, C
12:30 - 1:15 - Mobility Group A, B, C
1:15-1:30 p.m. - Q and A
Snacking throughout the day is encouraged - We'll provide drinks and snacks.
Location
Our workshop will be at the SAGE YMCA in Crystal Lake. The competitive pool and gymnasium will be used for our workshop. A small café' will have snacks, smoothies and lunch on hand for those who get hungry!
Life happens and we know things come up. If your plans have changed we recommend first finding someone who can take your spot to transfer in.
