Help Laura raise money

For participating in The 2022 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

My Story…

I am participating in the Falmouth Road Race to race funds for OUT MetroWest to provide programming and services to LGBTQ+ youth.  I am committed to doing my part to creating a world where everyone...YES EVERYONE... knows that they are important, have a voice, and are deserving of love and happiness. It makes me sad to know there are teens out there who feel alone and believe they must hide who they really are. I am so glad that my transgender son was able to navigate his way through this and has become the amazing confident person that he is today .  It is my dream that all youth have access to people and programs that support them as they navigate the challenging teen years and emerge into loving and secure young adults.

Please join me in this dream and support OUT MetroWest and my participation in the Falmouth Road Race

Description

Please help me build communities where LGBTQ+ youth thrive.

LGBTQ+ young people are at greater risk than their straight peers for lonliness, depression, risk taking, and self-harming. So OUT MetroWest offers activities that are not just fun, they're also educational and supportive. Even during the pandemic, when isolation wreaked havoc on so many, OUT MetroWest seamlessly transitioned to online programs, ensuring that those important, supportive connections with peers and adult role models could still be realized. And now, they've resumed in-person programming at our new, bright, and accessible home!

At OUT MetroWest, LGBTQ+ educators and adult role models facilitate more than a dozen, free youth meetings every month--engaging in creative activies from yoga and karoake to health panels and poetry writing. And over the past decade, they've directly served more than 1,000 youth, from pre-school-age through high school. These life-affirming programs make a difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ youth from more than 50 cities and towns across Massachusetts. Additionally, the team's training programs in schools, organizations, and businesses further help inform social change and build stronger, more welcoming communities.

OUT MetroWest's youth programs include:

  • Nexus: our first-in-the-state program for LGBTQ+ youth in grades 6-8
  • Prism: our flagship program (previously known as WAGLY) for LGBTQ+ teens in grades 9-12
  • Shine: our program for gender expansive children, ages pre-K through grade 5
  • Umbrella: our trans-facilitated program for transgender, non-binary, and gender questioning teens in grades 9-12
  • Youth of Color Hangout: our program for LGBTQ+ Black, Indigenous, and Youth of Color in grades 6-12
  • Drop-In: a less structured alternative to our other regularly scheduled programs, for LGBTQ+ youth in grades 6-12
