Fundraising for Cures!
I am beyond excited to be running the 2022 Falmouth Road Race for a number of reasons but the one that sticks out the most is that I have been fortunate enough to join the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation team for the second time! The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation is a non-profit organization that is very near to my heart. My story is below if you would like to understand why:
Growing up I had always had issues with my digestive system but, let's be honest here, I have always attributed this to my love of cheese and other delicious foods that are not so good on digestion. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I would eventually, after a long and painful road to discovery, be diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC)... I'll spare you the nitty-gritty details.
After I received my diagnosis in 2018, I had no clue what it was let alone what it meant for my life going forward. So, naturally, I did what anyone else does in this situation and hit the internet! To my surprise - UC, Crohn's, and other Inflammatory Bowel diseases are very common but rarely discussed because talking about poo is very taboo.
1.6 million Americans suffer from IBD with 70,000 new cases diagnosed each year. The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation's mission is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.
That said, I hope you will help me reach my fundraising goal by donating what you can - every little bit helps!
Love,
Amanda
