OUR FINISH LINE SAYS ALS DONE!
Hello friends and family! If you are reading this, you know me. And if you know me, you know my wonderful mom. I could fill this entire page with all of the things about my mom that make her the most loving, generous, wonderful mum, Grannie, wife, teacher, coworker, friend, sister, auntie, hostess, cook, baker, bartender...and the list could go on... My mom was diagnosed with ALS in the summer of 2021. We have spent the last year taking in this devastating news and savoring every single day.
ALS is a tough one. There is no cure and there is minimal treatment. We feel immensely blessed to have access to the best possible care there is, however the lack of options for this degenerative disease are frustrating. Most days I feel helpless in this "battle". I try to be her voice and would be her legs and hands and eat and drink for her if I could. Continued research and support is what we can do to help not only our family, but all those who may face this diagnosis in the future.
I am running my first Falmouth Road Race to support the ALS One fund in hopes that continued research provides hope for those with ALS and their families. I can not properly express the gratitude we feel for those that have supported us over the past year as we have faced this diagnosis and the challenges this disease brings. Thank you from the very bottom of our hearts.
While I do believe an ALS diagnosis is one of the must unlucky draws in the deck, I will forever consider myself to be the luckiest in the world that my mum is my mum.
