My Story…
The Quell First Responder Resilience Project is focused on “Normalizing a new culture for mental wellness in the first responder community.”
Frankly, I would not be walking this Earth let alone be running the Falmouth Road Race were it not for first responders. “Boy Hospitalized After Christmas Fire” read the headline of our town’s newspaper when I was 6 years old. Most of my family escaped our burning house in the wee hours of Christmas morning. I did not. Firemen at the scene were overcome by smoke trying to locate me. I was nearly left for dead. But through perseverance, firemen finally located my unconscious body. With oxygen and a tracheotomy I was revived.
I think often of the brave first responders who risked themselves to save my life. What must it be like for them when they don’t succeed? Please join me in supporting programs so that they can feel better equipped to manage the stresses of their jobs. Every time I run I say “thank you” to the firemen that saved my life. Help me put action to those words by donating to the Quell Foundation.
