Help Daniel raise money

In the Fall of 2018, my mother, Kathryn Decher, was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. In the Spring of 2020, my grandmother, her mother, Isabelle Decher, was also diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.

When I learned of my mother's and grandmother's diagnosis, I was a broke graduate student with little in my circle of control. Besides emotional support, I didn't have the means to help my family. While having lunch in Brookline at Michael's Deli, I came across a sandwich on their menu titled "Thorty's Black and Gold." The sandwich description read, "A portion of the proceeds benefit the Shawn Thornton Foundation."

Being a diehard hockey head, I had seen firsthand the impact Shawn Thornton had made on the ice each night. A true Boston Bruins legend. I would soon learn all that Shawn had done off the ice for Parkinson's and cancer research. His impact wasn't just felt on the ice but throughout his entire community. Since that sandwich, I've followed the Shawn Thornton Foundation closely and have had the distinct pleasure of working with the Foundation to help raise awareness. 

The Falmouth Road Race is the next step in assisting Shawn in his fight because his fight is also my fight, my mother's fight, and my grandmother's fight. Typically Parkinson's isn't passed down from mother to child. Only 15% of those living with Parkinson's have a family history of the disease. That was not the case for my family, and I want to do my part to make sure other families don't have to go through the same in the future.
