I am one of the lucky ones.

For many years, unbeknownst to me and likely since birth, I had been walking around with an unruptured brain aneurysm.  On the morning of March 10, 2018, my son Zachary's 7th birthday, I experienced the worst pain I had ever felt: a brain aneurysm rupture.  I was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital and underwent an innovative brain surgery performed by one of the world's best doctors.  Thankfully, I made a full recovery and feel grateful, every day, to be here writing to you.  

So many others, approximately 1 in 50 people, also have an unruptured aneurysm; however, not all are as lucky as I am.  Every year approximately 30,000 people experience a brain aneurysm rupture, and of those people about half die.  Of those who survive a rupture, the road can be long and arduous as they re-learn everyday functions and tasks.

Last summer, Doug and I ran the Falmouth Road Race for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation for the first time.  Although hard to put into words, it was an experience of invigorating energy and momentous personal significance.  This summer, on August 21st, Doug and I are doing it again!  We want to help the BAF raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of an aneurysm, and to raise funding to support research to improve patients' outcomes and save lives.
