Support. Inspire. Empower.
I did it again - I signed up to run a road race with a charity team. This year's charity is a pretty fantastic one that I learned about from Liz Freeman - it's called the Herren Project, and it's a national nonprofit organization providing free resources and support for the treatment, recovery and prevention of substance use disorder. The organization was founded in 2011 by former professional basketball player (and Massachusetts native!) Chris Herren, who has been in long-term recovery since August 1, 2008.
I was really inspired by Liz's fundraising and training journey leading up to running the Boston Marathon this past year, so when an opportunity to run Falmouth with Herren Project presented itself, I jumped at the chance. Addiction is one of those diseases that has affected all of us, so being able to support programs and initiatives that have a real life-saving impact on people's lives is an honor and a privilege!
