My Story…
I am honored to be part of the empowerHER Falmouth Road Race Team! empowerHER, Inc. is an organization that supports, connects and empowers young girls who experience the early loss of their mothers. empowerHER is the only program of its kind in the country. They offer a mentorship program, where a mentor is paired with a younger, motherless girl, as well as events for the girls throughout the year, such as a Mother's Day Retreat, cooking classes, back to school shopping, etc. Events remind the girls they are not alone in their loss and mentorship gives them a strong female role model as they traverse the difficult terrain of grief. All programs and activities are provided at no charge to the family.
This is my fourth year running for this organization as a means to honor the life and motherhood of my dear friend, Lindsay Bugbee Crosby. Lindsay passed away on July 4, 2018, shortly after giving birth to her third child. Lindsay was strong, compassionate, and thoughtful. I cherish our conversations about everything from coaching to being a mother. In running this race, I am trying to emulate her selflessness and love of athletics and running. In supporting empowerHER, I understand the opportunity to honor Lindsay's spirit and recognize that it can take a community to heal after such loss. This year will be especially meaningful as my sister, Colleen Volpicelli will be joining me in the effort.
Thank you for considering a donation to my campaign. I will keep you posted on my progress! To learn more about empowerHER, check out this amazing story about all the good work done.
