My Story…
Colorectal Cancer Resource and Action Network (CCRAN) is a not for profit organization that helps patients navigate our medical system to advocate and support colorectal cancer (CRC) patients and their families. CEO & President, Filomena, mission is to educate the physicians/public about rising early onset CRC and helps support patients gain access to the most up-to-date treatment & clinical trials for their situation. She brings CRC patients together in monthly zoom meetings to support one another and gain knowledge of research. CCRAN hosts patient education sessions with expert guest speakers & symposiums all which is so needed to give patients better chance of survival. Filomena will call, text or email you anytime of the day to offer her support. She does so much more than what I wrote above too.
This is CCRAN only fundraiser for the year. That’s why I have joined Joanne’s BumRun team to promote this vital organization for colorectal cancer patients. Joanne was the first stage IV CRC patient that I connected with and she told me about CCRAN. Without CCRAN I would struggle to advocate for the best treatment for me and be overwhelmed in the process. I have already experienced some major challenges in our medical system & Filomena was there to help me navigate. Our medical system needs organizations like CCRAN to help fill in the gaps of the medical system.
Filomena has inspired me to take control and fight for my treatment and create awareness of this deadly disease. If caught early it’s curable, so do not let any doctor tell you that you are too young to have cancer. A colonoscopy could save your life, don’t wait! Colorectal cancer is on the rise in younger healthy people and our system hasn’t caught up with the standard of care for these patients yet. It is still known as an old persons disease, it is not!
I will be running & walking a 5km loop in North Vancouver (I will update on my Instagram page @jessfightscancer of location/time). I plan to make signs, dress in blue & create awareness in my community. I’ll be sure to make a video of the action! If you want to be a part of this please make a donation to my page and all the funds goes back to people like me to get the proper support needed for this disease. Thank you so much for your continued support 💙
