Returning for its 17th year, the Stay Out of the Sun Run is Rochester's ONLY Friday evening race!
All proceeds will benefit melanoma research, education, and awareness through the Stay Out of the Sun Foundation and in partnership with the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center.
The Stay Out of the Sun event offers 5K, 10K, and 2 Mile distances on local trails surrounding Saint Mary’s University Rochester Campus and Cascade Lake.
This year we will be gathering at beautiful Saint Mary’s University Rochester Campus where we once again are offering skin checks and a variety of family-friendly entertainment. Instead of a silent auction, you'll have the opportunity to browse our selection of swag and purchase it right then and there! We'll have a variety of swag to choose from, including previous year's swag (such as hats & socks), along with new items that will be limited runs. 100% of the proceeds from the swag shop will go directly to the cause.

Packet pick up 4pm - 6 pm
Pop Up Shop 5-7pm
National Anthem: 6:20pm

Packet pick-up will take place at TerraLoco:
Wednesday, May 18th 10 am-3pm
Thursday, May 19, 3 pm-7 pm.
Same-day packet pick-up and registration will also be available on race day 4 pm-6 pm.
Note* Packet pick-up will not be available outside of these hours due to packet pick-up being coordinated by volunteers. Store staff cannot assist with packet pick-up outside of packet pick-up hours.
Won't be in town for the event and doing it 'virtually?' - Email events@runterraloco.com to coordinate an alternate pick-up time or send a friend/family to pick up your packet for you!
What's included? All participants (walkers & runners for the 5k & 10k) receive a Stay Out of the Sun medal.
We are excited to be able to give a larger donation to Stay Out of the Sun Foundation by reducing waste, and reusing medals from 2021, and 2020. Due to COVID-19, we have over 400 leftover medals and we cannot wait for all of the participants to be able to receive these.
What about other swag? Can I get a shirt? To keep registration costs down and to increase our donation amount, we are not including any other swag with your registration this year. Instead, you'll have the opportunity to purchase the swag you want on event day, including hats, socks, neck gaiters, and more!
What do the routes look like?
Our new location gives us a lot of room to explore everything that SE Minnesota has to offer!
5K & 10K runners will head out to Cascade Lake and turn around a bit after crossing the bridge. 5K runners will be doing an out and back to finish in front of the beautiful Saint Mary’s University Rochester Campus building, while 10K runners will finish up their last miles doing two unpaved loops around the Saint Mary’s University Rochester Campus. This mixed-surface course will take you past waterfowl, meadows, wildflowers, and more!

I didn't know the location or the course had changed. Can I transfer my registration to someone else or to a different event?
We understand that things look a little different this year, but we think you'll really love the new location. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds, but you are welcome to transfer to a different distance free of charge. Just email events@runterraloco.com with your request. Transfers to another participant will incur a small fee.
Do I need to register my child?
Infants or small children do not need to register separately if they do not want to receive a medal at the finish line.
Are dogs allowed?
Although we love our furry friends, no pets are allowed on the Saint Mary’s University Rochester Campus nor are they allowed on the 5K or 10K route for liability reasons.
Are strollers allowed?
If you are pushing a stroller, we ask that you either consider the walk route or line up at the back of the 5K runners. Strollers will not be suitable for the mixed surface 10K route.
