Rocks 'n' Roots 10K is an old-school barebones trail race held in beautiful Cuivre River State Park on April 24, 2022. This event is a challenging run along the Lone Spring Trail through the Northwoods Wild Area of the park. The Trail race will start and finish in Camp Derricotte.
The 10K start will be staggered with waves of 30 runners every 5 minutes starting at 8:30am in order to allow social distancing and prevent congestion on the trails. Runners will choose their start time during registration. The race is capped at 150 runners.
This year's event will also feature a 1/2 mile kids run at 8:15am, prior to the 10K. All kids runners will receive a finisher item, and can also purchase a shirt for $10.
Rocks 'n' Roots will be an environmentally friendly cup-less race. Runners will be required to carry all water and nutrition during the race. We will have one aid station that will have minimal staff, a first aid kit, and bottled water for emergencies. We will have course marshals/volunteers at all road and creek crossings as well as a volunteer crew on hand to ensure rules are followed.

Course Info
Rocks 'n' Roots will start and finish at Camp Dericottte and take runners on the Long Spring Trail, a 6 mile trail divided by Hwy KK. The trail is named for the flowing spring that emerges in the valley at the base of a ridge. The northern portion of the trail runs through the Northwoods Wild Area and crosses Big Sugar Creek and is a designated state natural area. Runners can expect natural surfaces such as dirt, mud, gravel, rocks and roots. Expect plenty of elevation changes and some stream crossings while you enjoy the dogwood and wildflowers that frequent the trail. The first half mile will be on paved road to allow runners time to space out before hitting single track trail the rest of the way.
Awards
The top 5 male and female overall finishers will receive a custom made award.
