Why am I participating in this year's Ruck4HIT? 

For Marine Captain Eric Jones who died in October 2009 at the age of 29 while flying a combat mission in Afghanistan. From that horrific event, his parents, Ken and Cyndy Jones, formed Heroes In Transition. 

Heroes is a nonprofit that supports veterans, service members, and military families throughout Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and New England. 

Through its work Heroes is saving the lives of veterans with PTSD. It is also saving the marriages of couples who face the strain of military service. Heroes offers healing, strengthens relationships, and builds community for the individuals and families they serve. 

And it is honoring Captain Jones' life and service. 

I'm also participating for my father who served in the Army and who died of cancer on April 30, 2018 when I was supposed to be participating in my second straight Ruck4HIT. Instead, I was attending his funeral. My dad was proud of his military service and in the later years of his life would travel throughout the country with my mother to bond with those he served with. Locally, Heroes is providing the same type of brotherhood and camaraderie that my dad cherished.
