COVID-19 Policy
What we are guaranteeing for your entry:
If the race is cancelled due to COVID-19, your entry will be deferred to 2023.
If you are unable to attend due to a self-assessment, your entry will be deferred to 2023 for a $100 fee. Apply through an online form by race start.
If you do not attend for any other reason (eg. injury, weather), your entry will not be deferred.
What protocols are in place:
We are following Athletics Ontario guidelines and working with Region of Waterloo Public Health to develop a detailed plan which follows the latest guidance.
Full vaccination is required, effective masks before and after the race are critical, be vigilant with your distancing, and maintain usual good hygiene and screening. Any protocol changes will be updated and shared as soon as they are known.
Outdoor gathering restrictions for private events do not apply to events with these detailed protocols.
In some ways, this will be a simpler race experience than the 2020 year. We are still proceeding with caution.
Charity of your Choice
If you are motivated to run The ENDURrun to support a charity of personal significance, we would love to help. With a minimum pledge total of $2,000 to a registered charity of your choice, The ENDURrun will refund your entry fee. This opportunity is available for 3 participants. Contact Lloyd to claim one. Description of New Course Changes
With complete changes to 5 of the 7 Stage course routes, and having run, walked, biked and measured all of them, these are my observations. Links to the course routes can be found above under Schedule of Events.
Stage 1 - Half Marathon, RIM Park, 2001 University Ave E, Waterloo, ON
The new course is 3 equal loops of 7.0325 km and is a certified distance. It is entirely on pavement, mostly on a paved bike path. Compared to our historical Half Marathon course, I would describe this new course as being faster as there are far fewer major hill climbs.
Stage 2 - 15 KM Time Trial, Moyer's Landing, 780 Fountain St S, Cambridge, ON
No changes, hooray. Not 100% but mostly flat, no major hill climbs, 45% paved road, 55% non-technical trail. A perfect transition from pavement to trail. 7.5 km out and back.
Stage 3 - 30 KM Cross Country Run, Shade's Mills Conservation Area, 450 Avenue Rd, Cambridge, ON
The new course is also a 5 km loop. While there is an extended flat section of over 1.5 km, the rest of the loop would be described as continually rolling. Bechtel Park has 8 distinct hill climbs, and all 8 are bigger than the biggest hill at Shades Mills. However, continually rolling hills creates a different kind of challenge. I would describe both courses as equally difficult.
Stage 4 - 10 Mile Hill Run, Walter Bean Trail, 508 Riverbend Dr, Kitchener, ON
Unable to run on the famous Wilmot Line, we believe that we found a worthy replacement, enabling us to still consider this a 10 Mile Hill run. The trade off is the replacement of many extended hill climbs with a course with continual smaller rolling hills on twisty, non-technical trails. Also taking into consideration that the new course is 100% trail (whereas the Wilmot Line course was half pavement, half gravel road), I would describe both courses as taking the same time to complete.
Stage 5 - 25.6 KM Technical Trail Run, Baden Hills, 2733 Sandhills Rd, Wilmot, ON
Most participants considered this Stage to be the most difficult, so we had a big challenge to find a replacement for Chicopee. And we believe that we have found an admirable replacement. Of course, nothing can replace the burn of mountain size hill climbs. But you will soon forget about that when trying to climb shorter, steeper, technical trail hills x 10 loops. Comments from participants running the course preview have suggested that the time to complete this Stage might be slower than Chicopee.
Stage 6 - 10 KM Time Trial, St David Catholic Secondary School, 4 High St, Waterloo, ON
No changes, hooray. 10 km track race.
Stage 7 - Marathon, RIM Park, 2001 University Ave E, Waterloo, ON
The new course is 5 equal loops of 8.439 km and is a certified BQ distance. It is entirely on pavement, mostly on a paved bike path. Compared to our historical Marathon course, I would describe this new course as being faster as there are far fewer major hill climbs.
Food, Refreshments and Course Support
For on course support, we will have aid stations supplied with water and Gatorade. Limited gels will be available, but it is recommended that you bring your own. Since fueling is of the utmost importance and varies from person to person, please do not rely on your preferred brand or flavour being available.
Post race, we will provide a variety of muffins, protein bars, fruit, yogurt and snacks. It is recommended that you bring sufficient food to keep your strength up for the duration of the event.
