As a second generation Ukrainian Canadian, I am sickened and disheartened with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I remember the letters my grandparents would receive from relatives back home, with lines blackened out when it was under Russian rule before; they would be horrified to know that what is happening in Ukraine, again To paraphrase Winston Churchill: "we are fighting BY ourselves alone, BUT we are not fighting FOR ourselves alone" - and recognize this fight that Ukraine is undertaking, is for freedom for all those who wish to remain a sovereign country The line in the Ukrainian anthem says that "we will give our body and our souls for our freedom" and that is exactly what all Ukrainians are doing, including the children who have been killed, the women raped, the civilians shot in the back Let us help them not have to give any more souls for freedom, let us help them keep their freedom; let us truly mean "never again" Slava Ukraini; Heroyam Slava
