Canicross and Running with Dogs Etiquette
For the safety and enjoyment of all participants please adhere to the following guidelines:
- All dogs are welcome to join the event. It is important to acknowledge that not all dogs are friendly and some dogs require more space than others. At the event you may request a yellow ribbon to tie to your dogs harness/leash. Yellow ribbons are visual cues to give you and your dog extra space.
- Every handler is responsible for their dog. If your dog is aggressive, you may want to reconsider joining the event, if you choose to come to the event it's in everyone's best interest that you use a muzzle. Race officials reserve the right to remove aggressive dogs from the event for safety reasons.
- When overtaking another team alert them to your presence by announcing "trail left" or "trail right" to indicate where you will be passing.
- When being overtaken by another team, it is recommended to yield to the side and allow them to pass in order to avoid any entanglements or injury.
- If participating in the 5k or 10k race, your dog MUST be out in front pulling you, your dog cannot be behind you.
-Ensure you allow your dog an opportunity to do their business prior to the race. Each handler is responsible for picking up after their dog, waste bins will be available.
- If your dog poops on the course, you must pick it up. There will be a waste bin at the aid station.
