About 4,000 Canadians per year die by suicide – an average of almost 11 suicides a day.

 Another year has passed and I am once again participating in the Centre for Suicide Prevention’s Run for Life 2022 in memory of my step son Andrew.  

Andrew died by suicide in August 2019.  He was 26 years old and he was outgoing, funny, handsome and loved beyond measure by all who knew him.   None of that matters when someone struggles with mental illness and feels that there is no other way, no help, no hope and they just want to end their pain. He had the world in his hands and family and friends that loved him and he still lost his personal inner battle.

I now understand that suicide prevention needs to be a priority for all of  us.

Our friends and family members need us to talk, to listen and to show that there is help, there is hope and we are here.  People struggling need us to be aware and to watch for signs.  We can help if we just stop being afraid/ashamed of the word “suicide”. Mental Illness and Suicide has effects most of us throughout our lives.

 From September 18 to 25, 2022, join Cindy and I on a journey from darkness into light to remember Andrew and our loved ones lost to suicide and raise awareness for suicide prevention.  

It is a virtual event and we will participate by walking 5 km in 3 different locations on 3 different days to raise money in memory of Andrew and all our loved ones lost.
