My Story…
At 6 weeks old, my niece Monroe was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA) which is an extremely rare, bone marrow failure disorder with no cure at this time.
In the first 2 years of Monroe’s life, in order to survive she has endured 47 blood transfusions (she doesn’t produce red blood cells), spent ~125 days in the hospital and has had to receive nightly needles at home (video link). Monroe is doing well, but she will be dealing with these challenges for the rest of her life.
My sister Meghan (who is as strong willed as her daughter) has joined the Diamond Blackfan Anemia board and I am convinced her tireless passion will help raise the much needed awareness for this little know disorder, which is so critical because the only money raised for research is through the few families who are personally dealing with DBA (at this time there is ZERO funding from the government).
Erin, Willa, Marlowe and I will be running the 1st annual DBA Dash on August 28th.
Please consider a donation to this cause. All donations over $25 will receive a tax receipt. We are extremely grateful for any support.
