Raise money for oneROOF Youth Services

oneROOF Youth Services is committed to providing for the safety, support, and overall wellbeing of youth who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, ages12-25, in Waterloo Region.

Vision:
Waterloo Region is a community that supports all youth, empowering them to meet positive goals in a safe and informed way, valuing unconditional positive regard, empathic understanding, integrity, supportive approach, distinctiveness, vital volunteers and staff and community education.

Our objective is to maintain the health and safety of this vulnerable population by providing resources and services that will allow them to make positive choices to end the cycle of homelessness.

The funds raised will literally go towards help us keep the doors open for youth accessing our Lifeline Program. This program is exactly what the name depicts – a lifeline to youth experiencing homelessness, abuse, violence, mental health/substance use and crisis.  Lifeline operates 24/7 and is made up of two components – our daytime Essential Services Program (ESP) and our evening Drop-In Services (EDI). Our daytime ESP exists in order to meet the basic daily needs of youth, including meals, laundry service, medical care, an ID Clinic, personal lockers and donation storage space, computer labs, showers and case management etc.. Our EDI is more formalized and offers all of the services of ESP, as well as formalized transitioning to adulthood, homelessness and housing (i.e. Landlord/Tenant Act, Safe Dating Practices, Financial Literacy, Planned Parenthood, etc.). These programs assist youth to establish goals, develop life skills, accesses linkages and additional resources and to stay healthy and safe.  Ultimately, Lifeline enables youth to break the cycle of homelessness and move toward a more appropriate housing solution.

History:
In late 1988, Kate Millar, with the help of others in the community, began working with youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness in downtown Kitchener. In 1989, a friend donated office space to Kate, and ROOF was officially born. Since inception there have been many changes in locations, programs and services offered and a need for 24/7 support.

By providing essential services such as but not limited to: a youth drop in centre where youth have access to 3 meals daily, clothing and hygiene donations, laundry rooms, emergency food hampers, warm showers, computer labs, Host Homes Program, education and life skills training, SEE (streets to education and employment) Program, Outreach Workers, Family Reconnect, and an 18 bed co-ed emergency shelter, will enable youth to develop the self-care skills needed to survive while on the streets and eventually move toward a more stable and healthy living environment.

Almost 35 years later oneROOF Youth Services is nearing completion of a 44 Unit Supportive Housing Build which could eradicates youth homelessness in Waterloo Region. Youth will have a chance to learn life skills and transition into independent housing breaking the cycle of homelessness.
