The Avila Beach Sharkfest Swim will take place in the calm waters of San Luis Obispo Bay Harbor and consist of 2 distances: 1Km and 2Km. The swims will start and finish next to the Avila Beach Pier in downtown Avila Beach. Both swims will start on the East side of the pier and finish on the West side of the pier. Avila Beach is noted for its calm protected waters and warm October weather. The 1Km will be once around the pier and the 2Km will go the end of the Cal Poly Pier and return to the finish. The swim will be limited to 400 swimmers.
PLEASE NOTE: This swim is not for novices. This event is for experienced open-water swimmers only. You should be able to swim one mile comfortably in a pool in under 40 minutes.

Event Details
ATHLETE CHECK-IN: Athlete Check-in will be held on Avila Beach.
WATER TEMP: low 60's - wetsuits encouraged
COURSE CUT-OFF TIME: 35 minutes for the 1Km, 70 minutes for the 2Km
RACE SUPPORT: Swim will be supported by lifeguards, kayakers, SUPs, and jet skis.
INCENTIVES: T-Shirts for all participants. Sharkfest Swim Medals for top three finishers in each age group. Personalized award plaques will also be mailed to the first place overall female and male winners (wetsuit & non-wetsuit combined).
AGE GROUP BREAKDOWN: Male and Female: 11-12, 13-14, 15-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95-100!
ENTRANT LETTER: An entrant letter with all the race day details will be emailed to all registered participants and posted online here 1-2 weeks prior to event day. Please check back for any updates and the full race day itinerary.
PARKING: limited parking on the streets; $6 paid parking (all day) in the main lot downtown located at 502 1st St, Avila Beach, CA 93424. Click HERE for a Google Map.
CANCELLATIONS: Registrations are non-refundable, unless you purchased the opt-in refund protection during check-out, in which case you can file a claim online here. If you did not purchase the refund protection and you can no longer participate in this event, you may receive a rollover credit (minus a $20 processing fee) toward a future event as long as you let us know by September 16, 2022.

No headquarters hotel. Plenty of hotels in Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo.
