Q: What is the Country Rumble Gravel Ride?
With 3 distances to choose from, the Country Rumble Gravel Rides offer a fun way to get out on your bike, be social and explore the country side. These unsupported group rides will be led by volunteer ride leaders. Registered participants are welcome to join the group or go off at your own pace. Please note: all riders must adhere to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act including stopping for stop signs and stoplights and not riding more than two abreast on all roads and in single file on busier roads. The purpose of this ride is to provide a safe enjoyable experience for cyclists and raising funds for a great cause.
Q: Are there signs on the road for the Country Rumble Gravel Rides?
No. Group rides will be led by volunteer ride leaders. All registered riders will receive both a copy of the route files to upload to electronic devices and a map of the routes before heading out on the ride.
Q: Are there any special "rules of the road" for the Country Rumble Gravel Rides?
All riders must obey the Ontario Traffic Act. Under that legislation, bicycles are considered vehicles so the Act applies. This means that riders must stop at stop signs and stoplights. A rolling stop is not permitted. Failure to do so could result in a fine.
Because bicycles usually travel at lower speeds than a car or truck, there are two rules of the road to which cyclists must pay special attention:
- slower traffic always stays right
- slower traffic must give way to faster traffic when safe and practical
When passing other cyclists, always pass on the left and verbalize your intentions. (ie. "passing on your left" or "on your left")
Bike Bell - all bicycles are required to have a bell or horn in good working order.
Helmets - In Ontario, every cyclist under the age of 18 must wear an approved bicycle helmet. Country Rumble Gravel Rides require that all cyclists, adults and children, to wear an approved helmet.
Q: What do I do if I need assistance?
If you have a serious medical emergency, call emergency personnel at 911.
If you have a minor medical emergency, or are having difficulty cycling, or a mechanical problem with your bicycle, call the event headquarters (519) 400 4395 number on your map.
Q: Will the event be held if it is raining?
Yes. The event will go on, rain or shine. If there is a major downpour or severe lightening, the start of the Country Rumble Gravel Rides and Pick Up the Pace Country Loop will be delayed until the weather clears. Dress for the weather and come out for a good time.
Q: Fundraising? Really? How do I do that?
Following the impacts of the pandemic, our community has seen a significant decline in their personal well-being and is facing a "loneliness epidemic" (YMCA Workwell, 2021). This is a fundraising event to support Up and Running Guelph and ensure the continued delivery of our nature-based walking and running programs. Our programs offer a low-cost, accessible tool for participants to manage their mental health and well-being through green exercise and social connections. Our goal this year is to raise $25,000.
Help us to achieve this goal by setting a goal for yourself and/or your team. Ask your friends, family, neighbours, and co-workers to support your fundraising efforts.
Q: I've raised $150, now what?
First of all, thank you and congratulations on raising $150 in donations!! We will follow up with an email to guide you through the next steps of refunding your registration fee.
Q: Are tax receipts issued for donations?
All donations of $20 will be issued tax receipts.
