My Story…
My journey leading to Up and Running Guelph, and my current role as Executive Director, was a long and twisty one, with plenty of bumps along the way—and today, I can confidently say, I wouldn’t change a thing. Following a car accident in 2007 that abruptly put an end to the career path I was on, I found myself in a place of despair and uncertainty. Fortunately, I had an incredible network of support to guide me through one of the most difficult times in my life. Looking back, the catalyst for change was the moment I started focusing on improving my quality of life versus returning to ‘normal’.
In 2009, I signed up for my first running clinic and began working on setting goals with the support of clinic leaders and fellow runners. Inspired by my new community, it didn't take long for me to start chasing new goals. While I continued to adapt to living with symptoms of post-concussion syndrome, I had quickly discovered that the combination of getting outside with others and exercising had dramatically improved my quality of life. It was this realization that inspired me to share my story and help empower others.
I never would have imagined that I would be where I am today. There is so much to be thankful for - mostly having the courage to take that first step. Your donation and support mean that more people will have an opportunity to do the same.
