The SMSS will be putting on our 19th annual fundraising event, Miles for Smiles on Saturday, September 10th 2022. We are hoping to go ahead with an in person walk/run held in Rotary Park with 2.5km, 5km and 10km races. If this is not possible due to circumstances surrounding COVID-19 or participants are unable to attend in person, a virtual option is available. The events will begin at 8:30am, but we encourage participants to arrive at 8:00am to check-in.
All proceeds raised will go towards the Riversdale Community Fridge in Saskatoon.
Miles for Smiles is an event organized by medical students at the University of Saskatchewan that welcomes community members and individuals of all abilities and promotes healthy and active lifestyles.

Riversdale Community Fridge (RCF) is an initiative seeking to address issues of food insecurity and poverty in Saskatoon by collaborating with community partners to provide access to healthy food options while addressing food waste. RCF is a community operated fridge and pantry that provides food and other necessary items (i.e. hygiene products, warm clothing) to individuals in need. Individuals who access the fridge are most often people who are suffering from poverty and food insecurity. Providing individuals and their families food security through community based organizations such as the RCF is a form of harm reduction, and a way that we can improve the lives and health of our community. Additionally, RCF is a completely volunteer run, community-funded organization, so the support from our fundraiser would likely go a very long way. The money that we raise for them would be used directly for grocery re-stocks for the fridge, as well as maintenance costs associated with ensuring the fridge is able to continue operating.
If you would like to make a separate monetary donation to add to our grand total to be donated to RCF from the Miles for Smiles event, please mail a cheque/cash to our Fundraising representative at the Student Medical Society of Saskatchewan:

Please note that a residential address is being used as we do not want to lose any donations as a result of these changing restrictions surrounding COVID-19. Unfortunately, we can not offer charitable donation tax receipts this year since both the Student Medical Society of Saskatchewan and our chosen charity RCF are nonprofit organizations and not fully-registered charities as of yet.
