For the past 5 years, I have been a part of the AACR Runners for Research Team and have had the opportunity to witness some of the remarkable work being done by this incredible organization. This November, I will once again be participating in the Philadelphia Marathon on behalf of the American Association For Cancer Research.

My fundraiser is the "$30 for 30" campaign because this will be both the 30th Anniversary of the Philadelphia Marathon and my 30th time running the event. A $30 donation is not required - any amount will be greatly appreciated and even a dollar can make a difference. 88 cents of every dollar donated to the AACR goes directly to support lifesaving cancer research!

We have all been touched by cancer in some way. Everyone knows someone who has or had cancer. Since I began running the Philadelphia Marathon in 1994, I lost two friends to cancer - one was Terry North, a fellow distance runner from Harrisburg, and the other was George McFall, a friend from high school who lived in Philadelphia and I would often see over Race Weekend.

Due to a devastating non-running related injury I suffered a few years ago, running - an activity I used to do with relative ease, is now almost impossible. Even walking can be extremely painful. Still, I want to do whatever I can do for cancer research. That’s why I keep participating. Although my struggle has definitely been life-changing, for those fighting cancer, the struggle can be life or death.
