My Story…
I'm dedicating my 2023 Triple Bypass bike ride in honor of my dear friend Lindsay Eckert Henry who passed away in September 2022 after a two-year battle with Ovarian Cancer. Lindsay and I met at UVA and had many adventure-packed years together in Charlottesville, San Francisco, and Colorado. Lindsay was the leader of our annual 4th of July bike ride between Basalt and Aspen, helping spark my adult cycling hobby.
Ahead of the ride, I'm working to raise funds for the Small Cell Ovarian Cancer Foundation. This cause is deeply personal to me and your donation will go directly towards raising awareness and finding a cure for this disease. Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated!
About SCCOHT
Small Cell Carcinoma of the Ovary (SCCOHT) also known as Small Cell Ovarian Cancer is a rare, highly malignant tumor that affects mainly young women. The median age of diagnosis is 24 years old, although the age can range from infancy into the 40’s. The Small Cell Ovarian Cancer Foundation was formed in 2010 following the devastating loss of 26-year-old Stephanie Petersen. Very little was known about the disease at that time.
The mission is to raise awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer, make information about small cell ovarian cancer more readily available to future patients and their families, and to fund research into this dreadful disease. Since the Foundation’s inception researchers have discovered the cause of SCCOHT; a mutation of the SMARCA4 gene. Research is ongoing to find a cure.
The Small Cell Ovarian Cancer Foundation started the first worldwide patient registry, provides access to an online support group, raises awareness of small cell ovarian cancer and its symptoms among the at-risk population of young women through our Awareness Bookmark Campaign, and financially supports ongoing research to ultimately find a cure. The Foundation also serves as a liaison between researchers, physicians, and patients.
About Team Evergreen Cycling
Team Evergreen Cycling is the oldest and largest cycling club in Colorado. It produces the Triple Bypass (and many more big cycling events) and hosts numerous other rides and events throughout the year. As a non-profit organization, Team Evergreen has donated nearly $4 million to local charitable and advocacy organizations.
About Triple Bypass
Triple Bypass is a bike ride (and race) through Colorado's Rocky Mountains and has been one of the most exciting events in the world of amateur cycling for over 30 years. Starting in Evergreen and ending in Avon, 5,000 determined riders will cover 120 miles and climb 11,000 feet, crossing three mountain passes—Juniper, Loveland, and Vail—during their challenging journey to the finish. Wish me luck!
