My Story…
This year, I'm back to riding the Triple Bypass after completing the Double Bypass along with my wife and our friend, Lou, in 2022. This will be my wife's first Triple, and we're hoping to raise money for the American Transplant Foundation, as we're both survivors of my living kidney donation.
It's been nearly six years since I was able to donate "the gift of life" to my friend, Jim, and together, we've been able to advocate for living organ donation through presentations at a local middle school and by contacting state legislators about the need for laws ensuring insurance for donors. And both Jim and I continue to be peer mentors with ATF, a Denver-based organization that has connected us with others in the transplant community.
For both of us, life is good! We both continue to cycle Colorado's varied terrain, though Jim prefers his E-trike to the old standard he used for years, even while undergoing daily peritoneal dialysis. For me personally, being able to demonstrate my faith through this act of donation has been the best part. Being able to share with others that because Jesus gave His life for me, I could give a kidney, is a message I'm hoping has had an impact on my three teenage boys!
Looking to make a tax-free donation to an organization in the business of saving lives? Check out what the American Transplant Foundation offers to donors and recipients alike, and I'm sure you'll realize that your contribution will go a long way toward giving "life" and helping those who are most in need.
