My Story…
In honor of my brother and his battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, I have decided to run the 2023 Pittsburgh Marathon, which falls on the weekend of the one-year anniversary of his death. In preparation for the marathon, I will be raising money for the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. Words cannot express how much this cause means to me and my family. The outstanding team of doctors, nurses and countless others at Children’s provided the best care for Jacob throughout both of his battles with AML - it became a second home for us when he was sick. I will be forever grateful to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for giving me and my family as much time as possible with our Jacob. To give back to the hospital that gave so much to my brother and my family, I am asking you all to help me raise money to support patients and their families at Children’s in honor of my brother. As part of Team Children's, my participation in the 2023 Pittsburgh Marathon supports UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation.
Funds support the patients and families served by UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Last year UPMC Children's Hospital had over 1 million patient visits and many of the programs, initiatives, and resources that make UPMC Children’s so special are funded by philanthropic gifts. Things like distraction therapy which provides patients something else to focus on during their medical procedures, the Child Life Department which provides many activities to create a sense of normalcy for hospitalized children, and the Free Care Fund which covers the cost of medical care for those that cannot afford it. These areas are not covered by insurance, yet are critically important to helping families face the many challenges that accompany a child’s treatment.
