My Story…
When I was 13 I found out my mom was diagnosed with MS. It didn't mean much to me then as a teenager because I'd never heard of it before. But in just a few short months her entire lifestyle shifted. She used to be so active, walking miles from week to week and taking me and my siblings to and from school, sports, and everything else under the sun. But within a few short months she was struggling just to get around the house. I won't get into specific details for respect of her privacy and to avoid sensationalism, but it's been difficult to watch someone I love so dearly struggle with something so difficult. Often times the ailments that don't present externally or get mentioned regularly are overlooked and ignored.
In all her years with MS, my mom has been the most positive about it. She refuses to let it steal her joy, and reminds us all that things can always be worse. While I don't have the same resilience and resolve as her while living with such struggle, I do aspire to. So this year, I hope to raise as much as possible for the National MS Society. I've seen what MS can do to a person for years, so as I train the next few months I'll be thinking of what the gift of movement is, giving thanks for it, and striving to celebrate every mile I can run. I've never run a marathon and it's a daunting task, but I'm excited to embark on the journey and am looking forward to May 7th. I hope you'll consider giving toward this organization and helping people like my mom and so many others who suffer silently. Let's crush this fundraising goal and make a difference.
