My Story…
In April of 2017, I was diagnosed with a type of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma called Primary Mediastinal Large B-Cell Lymphoma. Over the course of 4 months I received 6 rounds of intense chemotherapy at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. It is without a doubt that I can say I am still alive today because of the incredible staff at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The doctors, residents, nurses, PCTs, custodians, transportation team, physical therapists, child life specialists, nutritionists, volunteers, & everyone else I met along the way at CHP all played a critical role in my healing journey. It truly takes a village. I am forever grateful to have had such a wonderful experience at CHP while battling such an aggressive disease. This experience would not have been possible without the support from the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation is a charity dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children, teenagers, and young adults through excellence in patient care, teaching, research, and advocacy.
During my first few weeks at CHP, I watched the 2017 Pittsburgh Marathon runners pass through Bloomfield from the 9th floor of the hospital. As I prepare to run my first half marathon, I chose to run for a reason. My reason for running is to support, inspire, and help the kids who fight each day for a brighter, healthier future.
By donating to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, your donation is being used across the hospital from clinical excellence and patient experience, to kickstarting and advancing research, to eliminating disparities in children’s health within all communities. Donors play a critical role in helping kids in this region, and those traveling here from across the globe, have the healthiest tomorrow they can imagine.
Description
As part of Team Children's, my participation in the 2023 Pittsburgh Marathon supports UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation.
Funds support the patients and families served by UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Last year UPMC Children's Hospital had over 1 million patient visits and many of the programs, initiatives, and resources that make UPMC Children’s so special are funded by philanthropic gifts. Things like distraction therapy which provides patients something else to focus on during their medical procedures, the Child Life Department which provides many activities to create a sense of normalcy for hospitalized children, and the Free Care Fund which covers the cost of medical care for those that cannot afford it. These areas are not covered by insurance, yet are critically important to helping families face the many challenges that accompany a child’s treatment.
Please consider donating to support the patient champions at UPMC Children's! You can donate directly on this page or send a check to the address below and make a note that you are sponsoring my efforts.
