My Story…
Update 3/6/2023: We crushed my initial fundraising goal of $1,000 in just about 48 hours! How about some stretch goals?
$5,000 - If we get to $5,000 before race day, I will cycle to and from the race which will add a 20-mile (round trip) bike ride on top of the 26.2-mile marathon run.
$10,000 - If we get to $10,000 before race day, I will slow my pace and forego my marathon PR quest. Upon finishing the marathon course, I will turn around and run the course in reverse -- adding on a 2nd marathon -- for a 52.4-mile ultra.

Hi there! I will be running the 2023 Pittsburgh Marathon in support of UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation. This organization is near to my heart and I'm happy to suffer for a few hours to help them further their mission of caring for kids with serious medical conditions.
Our son spent the first week of his life being cared for in Children's Hospital. As first-time parents, our emotions were high and we were very scared. The staff and doctors at Children's were so skilled and dedicated to the well-being of our son, this is the least I can do to say thank you.

As part of Team Children's, my participation in the 2023 Pittsburgh Marathon supports UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation.
Funds support the patients and families served by UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Last year UPMC Children's Hospital had over 1 million patient visits and many of the programs, initiatives, and resources that make UPMC Children’s so special are funded by philanthropic gifts. Things like distraction therapy which provides patients something else to focus on during their medical procedures, the Child Life Department which provides many activities to create a sense of normalcy for hospitalized children, and the Free Care Fund which covers the cost of medical care for those that cannot afford it. These areas are not covered by insurance, yet are critically important to helping families face the many challenges that accompany a child’s treatment.
