My Story…
I am running for the Alzheimer's Association, in honor of my dad, Richard Hopwood. My dad was an amazing and special human. He was one of eleven children. He adored his mother. He was an Army Veteran, a true man of God, an exemplary husband, and the best dad I could have asked for. He and my mom taught my six siblings and I what it was to be selfless, generous, kind, hardworking. He always carried extra cash in case someone needed it more than he did. He loved spending his time during the first several years of his retirement volunteering for Meals on Wheels because he always said how much he "love(d) the old people", which is definitely where I get my love of working with the elderly from, and why I work with them. He loved their stories and loved to help them. Unfortunately, that, along with many other things came to an end when he was diagnosed as having Alzheimer's Disease. My mom went through a lot trying to take care of him by herself as long as she could. He was able to move into the Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Erie, PA, where he spent his final years.
There are new treatments always being discovered to help delay and decrease symptoms of AD, but still no cure. It is my hope that in my lifetime we can find a cure. Please help by donating to the Alzheimer's Association of PA today!
