12/31/22: New Year's Day (In-Person) Race Canceled
New Year’s Day Runners,
We just finished accounting for all participants at our New Year’s Eve races and left the park.
During this event, the storm affected the park much more than was anticipated, causing severe flooding and landslides on the east and west shore trails of Lake Chabot. As a result, the park was shut down and all trails closed with no known timeline for re-opening.
Unfortunately, this means that tomorrow’s New Year’s Day event must be canceled.
This is the first time we have ever had to cancel a race due to extreme weather (and since 2009, it was only during the covid lockdown that we ever had to cancel a race). If a park is deemed safe for the general public, we will always put on the race no matter the weather and If there were any way for us to be out there and present the race for you, we would do it.
As is always the case, the food, medals, shirt, bibs, timing tags, etc. have all been purchased and are not anything that we can use again. We also know that many of the New Year’s Eve runners wanted to participate in both races and get the “middle medal.”
Our policy has always been that there are no deferrals or credits for Acts of God, but we still want to offer all registrants the option of either getting a “virtual” run package by mail (including shirt, medal and bib) or using a 50% race credit to a future event.
If you would like to receive that virtual package with your shirt and medal (and middle medal if you also signed up for New Year’s Eve) by mail, please reply to this email and let us know. We will get that out in the mail this coming week. If your address is different than your registration, let us know. If we don’t hear from you, we will send you a coupon code by email in the next 7-10 days.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sam, Jasmin and the Brazen Racing Crew
