My Story…
I have watched Sindy and other friends around me fight to beat their cancer (or other major hurdles) with such brave and strong attitudes it cannot but inspire me to try to help.
When I am out training and getting dismayed, or having a tough day, I reflect on how lucky I really am and who I am doing this for, and the job becomes a little easier. I think of those who did not make it - Melanie, Gord, Gayle, Terry, Joy, Bruce - to name a few. And their families who have had to pick up the pieces after.
My first challenge was Ironman Arizona in November - and a challenge it was. It was a long day (15-1/2 hours- I am slow), starting with a very cold swim, then a crowded bike course and less crowded run (advantage of being slow). I wore the team colours and that help get me through the many tough moments.
The next challenge is a much more manageable half Marathon in Ottawa during the Race Weekend in May. I reached my first fundraising goal - thank you everyone. So...I am aiming higher.
