My Story…
As NEED2's Education Manager turned Operations Manager, I feel so grateful and excited to be directly involved in the organization's mission to develop and deliver workshops in schools across Greater Victoria and beyond. Our goal is to encourage youth and educators to normalize conversations around mental heath and explore tools for support throughout their journey through school.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people in Canada. We want youth to start understanding their own emotions and mental health at young age and learn strategies that can promote their mental wellness throughout their life.
Starting in our mindfulness program, students learn skills to manage and cope with difficult emotions and thoughts, and practice tuning into the the present moment. As students mature NEED2 helps to break down stigma and normalize talking openly and responsibly about mental health and suicide, and asking for support. By the time students are in high school our goal is for students to have the comfort and confidence to identify struggle and understand tools to support their peers and themselves.
We want the children and youth of Victoria and across South Vancouver Island to grow up understanding that feeling, expressing and talking about all our emotional experiences is a beautiful and important part of being human. We want young people to feel encouraged and empowered to proudly access support in their community and feel as though they have the tools to care for the people around them.
Your donations will go towards initiatives to continuously evaluate and improve our current mental health and mindfulness workshops, develop new workshops to meet the needs across student ages, and bring our workshops to elementary, middle and high school classrooms throughout South Vancouver Island.
Let's break the stigma and start the conversation!
