My Story…
Hi friends and neighbors! As some folks may know, Breaking the Silence has been an organization very dear to my heart since my internship with La Fundacion Nueva Esperenza in 2016. I believe strongly in the work of BTS and the work of our incredible partners in Guatemala, who inspire me as an Indigenous woman working to revive my/our own Mi'kmaw cultural and land-based knowledge systems here in Mi'kma'ki. The work of the New Hope Foundation especially touched me in this way. (Photo of La Fundacion above, 2016). This year, our BTS team is walking and running the Bluenose 10k (I will be running!) in memory and honor of our dear friend and mentor, Wilf Bean, who played such an integral role in this solidarity and social justice work, and who we lost this year. I humbly invite any folks who are able, and feel compelled, to donate to this important cause, and in Wilf's memory. Any and all donations will be deeply appreciated. Wela'lioq!
