My Story…

Breaking the Silence is a Maritimes-based network of volunteers acting in solidarity with Guatemalans in the struggle for political, social and economic justice. PEI Breaking the Silence committee is the organization of Prince Edward Islanders who are active in the network. We undertake advocacy campaigns; organize delegations to Guatemala; send volunteers and human rights accompaniers; promote fairly-traded coffee; and raise awareness through speaking tours by Guatemalans.

We respond to needs defined by our partners in Guatemala. Our work includes support and advocacy around loss of land and community, contamination of water and criminalization of land defenders related to corporate interests such as monoculture and mining.

Our relationships are built on friendship, sharing, and dialogue as we work, learn, and grow together.

We will be walking our 10K on PEI on May 20th. We'll walk a beautiful 10K on the Confederation Trail from Avondale to the MacPhail Ecological Forestry Project.

Description

This annual event has become an a very important fun!raiser for Breaking the Silence (BTS).  With your generous donation, our Maritime-Guatemalan network can continue to support the efforts of Guatemalans who struggle for political, social and economic justice.

100% of your donation will help us undertake essential activities related to advocacy and lobbying as well organize delegations, send interns, volunteers and human rights accompaniers.  We cannot do all of this without your help.

There is something about crossing a finish line that encourages us to do this year and year again.
