My Story…
With an internal cost of $250 per move, our goal this year is to raise $2,000, which will move 8 families out of abusive homes. To help us reach our goal, I will be running in the Goodlife Fitness 10KM, and my personal fundraising goal is to raise $1,000, which will move four families in Nova Scotia out of abusive homes and transition to a life free of violence.
Shelter Movers Nova Scotia collaborates with local shelters, security agencies, rental companies, businesses, volunteers, and donors throughout the province to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free from gender-based violence. Since launching in 2019, Shelter Movers Nova Scotia has completed over 600 moves across the HRM, the South Shore, and Annapolis Valley.

Shelter Movers is the only service of its kind in Canada, operating in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax Regional Municipality. Over 500+ volunteers across the country create a safe and empowering space for survivors of abuse to transition to a better life. Growing evidence suggests a significant long-term societal benefit when the cycle of violence is broken. Shelter Movers takes on the logistical, security and financial burden of moving and storing survivors’ belongings, allowing local social services (shelters, police and hospitals) to focus on their primary objectives. Shelter Movers partners with in excess of 60 shelters and agencies in the cities we serve, and since being established in 2016, we have completed over 1100 moves across Canada.
