My Story…
Hi everyone! Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
Long story short, with no experience or training I have decided to tackle the Bluenose Half-Marathon! Given my lack of experience, the race will likely leave me wrecked at the end, and so I wanted to make it worthwhile by raising money for charity!
I've chosen Cystic Fibrosis Canada as my organization of choice for the event. I have some wonderful family members who have been fighting Cystic Fibrosis for decades, and have organizations like this to thank for the ever-improving life expectancy and quality for those who suffer from this genetic disease.
Below is a brief passage from Cystic Fibrosis Canada explaining the disease, and follow the link at the end to learn more on their website.
"Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. At present, there is no cure.
CF causes various effects on the body, but mainly affects the digestive system and lungs. The degree of cystic fibrosis severity differs from person to person, however, the persistence and ongoing infection in the lungs, with destruction of lungs and loss of lung function, will eventually lead to death in the majority of people with CF.
Typical complications caused by cystic fibrosis are:
1.Difficulty digesting fats and proteins
2.Malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies because of inability to absorb nutrients
3.Progressive lung damage from chronic infections and aberrant inflammation
4.CF related diabetes
5.Sinus infections
More than 4,300 Canadian children, adolescents, and adults with cystic fibrosis attend specialized CF clinics. Half of the Canadians who died with CF in the past five years were under the age of 37."
Thank you all for the donations and inspiration to take part in this event! :)
