Help Shirley raise money

For participating in 2023 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon

My Story…

Evangeline is the reason I run to raise money for Cancer.

Evangeline was diagnosed with Stage 3, Intermediate Risk, Rhabdomyosarcoma just 2 weeks after her second birthday.  Then she relapsed (considered Metastasis)…

She went through 18 months of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of Proton Therapy radiation the first time she had cancer.

During her first remission, she went through hip surgery that put her in a Spica Cast for 6 weeks and immobile for another 3 weeks after the cast came off.  She has a 2 inch difference (currently) between her right and left leg.  This will lead to additional surgeries later.

Several PET and CT scans, MRI’s under anesthesia, and two biopsies later we were told she had Rhabdomyosarcoma again.
11 months of chemotherapy and another 6 weeks of Proton Therapy.

Currently, because of her high risk of relapse, they are doing scans every 8 weeks and she still has her port in.

Her parents have decided that they will be doing Virtual School this year for kindergarten for her.  This was an incredibly difficult decision to make.  However, they are still struggling with potty training-(she had diarrhea for literally 3 years)-Evangeline still has Physical Therapy weekly and regular appointments with her Oncology team.  Until her port comes out a low grade fever could put her in the hospital.  With any luck, they will have port removal surgery in September.  Possibly, they could transition her into regular school in December.
Childhood cancer sucks.  Every single day is hard.  They live in constant fear for this beast coming back and taking their baby.

So we pray. We have faith. We lean on our friends.

Today, I’m thankful that they are starting to plan a 6th birthday!!!
