Join me in bringing hope to children impacted by poverty!
Hello Friend!
I am running my second full marathon (42km) in less than 2 weeks!
I will be running the Toronto Waterfront Full Marathon on October 15th for Toronto City Mission (TCM) and hoping to raise $1200. Thanks to those of you who are interested in supporting - your gift will help provide after school programs, leadership programs, and day camps for children and youth in communities impacted by poverty.
A little bit about my marathon running journey...
I ran my first full marathon 5 years ago and finished with 5 hours and 45 minutes, just 15 minutes before the race's closing. Injured my knee at the 20th km and had to walk the rest. Remember feeling pain, cold and starvation but thankfully I managed to finish. Thought to myself at the finish line that I would never do a full again because it was such a torture!
But here I am again, the running bug is real lol.
As I didn't do much long distance running since the injury, when signing up for the race early this year I debated if I should take it easy and just go for a half marathon or challenge myself for another full. Felt that I could get by completing a half even without much preparation but if I opt for a full, I then really need to put in the effort to train... Eventually I signed up for a full and I am glad I did!
I have been having a lot of fun prepping for the race: I joined a gym membership, learnt to do all sorts of weight training to strengthen my back and knee muscles, read about body mechanics & running shoes and of course ran a lot! Felt accomplished each time when hitting a milestone - my first 5km, 10km, 15km, 20km, and this past weekend 30 km! I felt good, not only for hitting the milestones, but also for the fact that I did what I set out to do, especially even when I didn't feel like doing it!
Now the big day is in 2 weeks and I am nervous! Afraid that I won't be able to get a better time than my first marathon, afraid that I would get injured again... But as I reflect on my whole training journey, this saying keeps coming back to me, that "it's not about the result, it is about the process"...
