My Story…
My first time running the Toronto Waterfront 1/2 marathon was in 2015. Every year, I dust off old photos of Mum and remember why I run, fundraise, and why this race means so much. My Mum lived with early-onset Alzheimer's for too long before getting diagnosed. While some things became easier after this diagnosis, one thing didn't - we knew we would slowly lose my Mum. The Alzheimer's Society of Toronto supported me and my family through that time. We all know others who have family and friends living with dementia. I use this platform to let them know it's ok to ask for help, and to be scared of the unknown. Mum left our world at the end of 2017. Today, I run for Supy (my Mum's nickname). When I run, I remember her laugh, her love of music, and her unwavering support for me. And I continue to be so grateful that Lucy and Theo knew her, and remember her.
Please consider supporting my run - whether it's the cost of your daily coffee or something more, every bit counts.
With love and gratitude,
Katie
