My Story…
Those who have known me for a long time will know that running marathons and half-marathons used to take up a lot of my spare time. However, for the past seven years I have been focusing my energy and time on supporting the important work of Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders, working in projects around the globe. From detention camps in Syria to rising up against the deadly border policies of Europe; from the frontlines of conflicts such as those in Ukraine and Sudan, to waging our own battles against outbreaks of cholera and COVID-19 -- I have experienced firsthand the impact MSF can have. I have witnessed the flexibility that the independence of MSF's funding gives us to respond immediately to needs that are identified, both on a small scale, to address local emergencies in the communities where we are present, and on a grander scale, when there is a sudden onset of a humanitarian crisis. It is thanks to independant donors that we have the freedom to rapidly respond.
On Sunday, October 15th, I will toe the start line for the first time since 2017 and I will do it in support of Médecins Sans Frontières.
Description
I have pledged to support Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
MSF is an independent emergency medical humanitarian organization that has more than 40,000 staff members working in humanitarian crises in close to 70 countries. Right now, MSF medical teams are saving lives all over the world. MSF would not be able to make such a difference in the lives of people caught in crises without the generosity of individual donors.
More than 95 per cent of MSF’s funding comes from private donations, rather than from governments or large institutions. This gives MSF the independence to act decisively and to go wherever the needs are greatest, without additional political pressure or interference.
I have decided to support MSF, and it would mean so much to me if you would consider supporting my fundraising goal. Each donation counts.
Together, we can help alleviate suffering and change lives.
Your generosity allows MSF teams to continue saving lives by delivering urgent care to people made vulnerable by disaster, conflict, disease or exclusion from healthcare.
Thank you for your support!
