For participating in 2023 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon

Our story…

Fifteen years ago, WoodGreen Community Services embraced the Rites of Passage process as a means of addressing some of the daily challenges young people of African descent continue to face around their race and identity.

As part of ROP, young people undergo a process of maturation and personal development, practiced in many indigenous cultures, designed to assist them as they transition into responsible adulthood. This has a long-term positive impact on their values, perception of self, and builds resilience.

This year WoodGreen’s Rites of Passage team is excited to announce that we will be taking a group of our alumni youth on an immersive experience to Tanzania this November. This fourteen-day trip will be spent engaging with the Masai community, providing an additional lens through which they experience life as young people of African descent. We are anticipating a group of approximately 20 participants (youth and staff) and we are looking to community champions like yourself for support to make this trip possible.

We are counting on your support to run and fundraise for our ROP Tanzania excursion -- help realize this impactful opportunity for our ROP youth. Should we exceed our goal, any excess funding will be directed to WoodGreen’s Rites of Passage program so that other youth will be able to engage in this empowering process.

Thank you for your support as we continue to serve our community.
