My Story…
As a student alumni of the charity, volunteer, and student ambassador, I am very excited to participate in this 5km challenge in support of ComKids. Please support me, ComKids and the grade 7 students all across the program, in order to diminish the digital divide that exists, and to help us level the playing field for all students. Providing kids with access to technology is providing them with the core tool to succeed in this era, and with ComKids' extra-curricular courses provided, it truly allows students to excel and live up to their true potential. I have also been a proud member of the board since 2019 and can attest to the passion of everyone involved in the charity. Feel free to join us on the ComKids Comets team / Team PwC as a runner and/or provide moral or monetary support in the form of donations (any kinds of donations are most welcome)! Thank you for your support!
Description
For over 20 years, ComKids has been supporting Grade 7 students in low-equity, underserved communities across the Toronto, Hamilton, and Niagara Regions; providing essential digital infrastructure, educational content, and support for those facing significant barriers to digital inclusion, digital literacy, and academic success. Since our inception the significance of digital inclusion has grown exponentially as technology becomes integral to daily life, compounded further by COVID-19, as distanced learning becomes essential for successful engagement in academic activities.
Areas of activity:
Access for All: Provision of free, consistent, and reliable access to technology within their homes; including a brand-new Chromebook and internet access. Partnering with local School Boards to identify young people most in need.
Empowered Learners: Delivery of in-person and online Digital Literacy Master Classes (content partners include Google, TELUS Wise, and CIVIX); developing essential digital literacy skills required for academic success and motivating further digital learning necessary for positive engagement in higher education and future labour markets.
