HMCS Haida was commissioned by the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943, serving in the Second World War, two tours of duty in the Korean Conflict, and in the Cold War. HMCS Haida is the last of the 27 Tribal-class destroyers, a fast and capable British ship design that served across the globe in the 1940s and 1950s. In October 1963, HMCS Haida was decommissioned from the Navy. The ship was then acquired by the Government of Ontario in 1970 and opened to visitors at Ontario Place as a training vessel and museum ship. Ownership was transferred to Parks Canada in 2002, and HMCS Haida reopened as a National Historic Site at Hamilton’s Pier 9 in 2004.
