Welcome to The Pick & Shovel Showdown at the McDonald Sports Park in Waverley, Nova Scotia. With over 73,000 ounces of gold taken from the nearby claims you might just want to bring some tools with you and try your luck!
This race features a first of its kind format for these parts. Our goal is to encourage people to start off running and continue as long as they can or want for up to 8 hours.
There will be two events in one, a 10ish km race and an 8 hour endurance event. You can run the 10K then go home to warm up or sign up for the Endurance event and keep going for up to 8 hours! Every competitor will line up for 10km event starting at 9am. When finished the 10km race those who have signed up for the 8 hour event will continue going out on 6ish km laps until 4:30pm which is the cutoff to start a lap. Your last lap must be finished by 5pm for it to count toward your total. In the event of a tie for most laps the person with the fastest 10km time will go home the victor. Someone could win two races in one day!!!
The course is very runnable with great footing when it's not buried in snow. The area is highly trafficked so even in the event of a snowy January it should be packed down. Please be prepared for the winter conditions and ready to run in whatever Mother Nature brings us.
We have the Cheema Canoe Club booked which will be the start/finish and warmup area for the 8 hour racers in between laps. Please note this race will happen Rain/Sleet/Snow with the exception of a city wide shutdown. In the UNLIKELY event we do postpone the race it will happen the following day on January 15th.
There will be Prizing for both the 10km and 8 hour Podium finishers (male and female) plus a bunch of door prizes up for grabs.
We hope you can join us for a fun and memorable day of winter fun!
Please note the cutoff to order all merchandise is December 18th @11:59pm.
***The Fine Print - There will be no refunds on this event but you can transfer your registration to another person up to January 8th @ noon directly though Race Roster for $1.95 + processing fee. You will also be able to "bump up" to the longer event (if spots remain) until January 8th. There is no option to "bump down" but all runners will be scored on the 10Km race***
We will send an email out to all participants prior to the race with more details. You can also follow us @allouttrailracing on Instagram for the latest updates.
