Juneau Marathon and Half-Marathon

REMINDER: ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSES THURSDAY, JULY 27, AT 6:00 PM ALASKA DAYLIGHT TIME. This is 10 pm in the Eastern time zone and 7 pm in the Pacific time zone. Register here before then or come to NAO on Friday, 4 to 6 pm, or the shelter at Savikko Park on Saturday.

Race day entry fees increase by $10.

Saturday registrations will close 10 minutes before the start time (translates to 6:50 am for the marathon and 8:50 am for the half-marathon). This will be strictly enforced.

BE PREPARED TO PAY WITH CASH OR CHECK AT NAO OR SAVIKKO PARK. We do not accept credit cards.

UPDATE: JULY 19, 2023 - IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE!!

T-minus 10 days and I have important news to share about this year's courses.

The marathon and half-marathon courses are on the upland side of Douglas Highway and North Douglas Highway - that would be the left side of the road as you leave the starting line.

Due to construction, this year's Juneau Marathon and Half-Marathon must be conducted on the water side of Douglas Highway and North Douglas Highway. This corresponds to the right side of the road once you start the race.

While the construction zone is only a couple hundred feet long, North Douglas Highway is a 45-mph route and uncontrolled pedestrian crossings are not safe. The work zone is between mile markers 6 and 7 at the Wee Burn Drive intersection (start/finish circled in red; work zone location is the red "X").

At the work zone, North Douglas Highway will be necked down to a single lane of two-way traffic, controlled by flaggers. There will be a 4-foot wide path on the waterside shoulder for runners. Please exercise extreme caution as you run by the work zone. In the interest of safety, please remain on the waterside shoulder for the entirety of your race.

Hello, everyone! In four weeks we will be putting on a race and you will be running in it!

I hope your training goes / finishes well. If for some reason you are unable to participate, please let me know.

Registration and Packet Pickup will be at Nugget Alaskan Outfitters (NAO) from 4 pm to 6 pm on Friday, July 28. NAO is located toward the far (northern) end of Mendenhall Mall approx. 10 miles northwest of downtown. The address is:

This will be the final day of early fees ($75 for the marathon, $45 for the half-marathon). We accept cash or check (payable to JTRR); NAO can run your card to provide you with cash if need be.

If you cannot come to this session, fear not, you can pick up your packet or register on race day. Please allow yourself enough time to take care of this - there will be no new registrations taken within ten minutes of your event start time. Please bring cash or a check for race day registration as we do not have the capability to accept credit/debit cards. $85 for the marathon, $55 for the half-marathon.

Greetings from Juneau, where the rain has decided to stop and the sun is essaying mightily to come out, if only for a day!!

Here we are at 90 days out. For those of you who have registered, I hope your training is progressing well. On this end, plans are coming together for another great Juneau Marathon and Half-Marathon! Why, I just ordered the porta-potties today! :)

For those of you who have not yet registered, be advised I am getting reports of problems when it comes to securing a rental vehicle. You may wish to get that detail nailed down as one of the first steps in planning your travel here. It seems the forecast of a record tourist season is more than mere speculation. After a couple years of the COVID blues, Southeast Alaska expects 1.5 million plus visitors this season, and that will be a record. Rental cars are proving popular! If you can't get one, we do have Uber, Lyft, taxis, and bus service.

WELCOME TO THE 2023 JUNEAU MARATHON AND HALF-MARATHON!!

This year's event will take place on Saturday, July 29. The marathon starts at 7:00 am AKDT and the half, two hours later at 9:00 am AKDT. Both events start and finish at Savikko Park in Douglas (across Gastineau Channel from Juneau proper).

There will be an early start for marathon walkers at 6:00 am AKDT. Participants choosing this start time will not be eligible for age group awards, but will receive a finisher's medal upon crossing the line.

Registration here on RaceRoster will close at 6:00 pm AKDT on Thursday, July 27.

There will be one pre-race day, in-person registration event on Friday, July 28, at Nugget Alaskan Outfitters (NAO), from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. NAO is located in the Mendenhall Mall, approx. 10 miles north of downtown Juneau. More information on this will be forthcoming once I get the details nailed down.

There will be race day registration at Savikko Park starting at 6 am. RACE DAY ENTRY FEES WILL BE $10 MORE FOR EACH EVENT ($85 for the marathon, $55 for the half-marathon).

Entry fees are non-refundable.
